Holiday Spirit
a somber soundtrack to the holiday season

Queer artists come together in mournful new single, 'Holiday Spirit'
Releasing on December 5, “Holiday Spirit” is the latest work from Naarm's rising indie folk voices, Tom Nethersole & Kye Arnot.

Written as an ode to loved ones lost, 'Holiday Spirit' sits in the bittersweet space between cherishing & missing.
"We wrote this song inspired by the idea of the first Christmas after someone has passed away"
For Kye, 'Holiday Spirit' is about how the magic changes as we get older: "I kept thinking about what Christmas felt like when I was a kid. I remember how magical it felt setting up the tree, driving past all the houses decked out in Christmas lights, and seeing decorations throughout shopping centres.
I still remember the year December stopped feeling magical, and it started to feel like any other month. Part of what I wanted to explore in this song, was the feeling of Christmas losing its magic from the eyes of a kid. “
Bonded by their shared experiences of growing up queer & experiencing loss at a young age, Nethersole & Arnot trek the uncharted territory of what 'the giving season' looks like when consumed by loss.
"I think there's a pressure for this time of year to be infused with joy, when, in my experience, it's often a really hard time where you're faced with the ramifications of losing the ones you love", says Tom.

Coming off the recent release of his 8-track EP, 'Father, Son & the space in between', Tom Nethersole has already established himself as a must-watch talent, opening for Drax Project & RARIA on their respective tours as well as gracing stages such as Midsumma's Pride Street Party, Rockhampton River Festival, Always Live & Spilt Milk on December 6.
He’s been featured on Rolling Stone’s “Best Australian Music of the Week”, as well as Triple J, Hot Hits with Nic & Loren, JOY FM, FBi Radio, & many others.

Similarly, Kye Arnot is using his voice to connect beyond borders & touch hearts across the world with a dedicated following of more than 40,000 people on TikTok.
Recently releasing his debut single, 'Common Things' with AWAL, Kye Arnot is cementing himself as one-to-watch in the Australian music scene
